OzProg Newsletter #005 - June 2008

WELCOME

Welcome to the June issue of the OzProg Newsletter, sent in June because it's the June newsletter. We've had another busy month down at OzProg HQ, so busy in fact that I almost wasn't able to get the newsletter out before the end of the month.

Limelight Brisbane - the new monthly progressive music night at the Globe Theatre - has had two massively successful nights so far, and this month we have something extra special: sleepmakeswaves are coming all the way up from NSW for their first ever Brisbane show. Joined by Hazards of Swimming Naked, The Surrogate and From Whence It Come, this is going to be the biggest Limelight ever. Thursday, July 17th at the Globe Theatre.

And right now, as I'm writing this, two of Melbourne's premier progressive rock bands are on tour along the east coast. Bushido and Sleep Parade will be coming to a venue near you in the next couple of weeks. Don't miss it!

As always, we've had international tour announcements aplenty in the past month. Check the list to the right for the full list of recent news posted to OzProg.

WHAT'S NEW

This month at the 'Prog we've got four huge interviews, from both international and local acts.

Dom Alessio of Sydney alterna-prog band Paper Champion completed an OzProg Q&A ahead of their appearance at the Come Together festival earlier this month, and had some interesting things to say about the state of music in Sydney. Even if you're not a fan of Paper Champion, this interview makes for a great read!

Dutch technical metal band Textures are the next big thing in metal, and their new album Silhouettes has been impressing fans and critics all over the world. OzProg's Michael Gagen asked Bart Hennephof about their music and the prospect of an Aussie tour.

And finally, in anticipation of their double-header tour this month, we've roped in both Bushido and James Livesy of Sleep Parade for interviews.

FEATURED ARTIST - THE REX WICKED

Strange name, stranger artwork, brilliant music. The Rex Wicked are a progressive art-rock band from Melbourne who incorporate piano, cello and traditional rock instrumentation in their imaginitive and dynamic music. Their self-released debut EP The World Could Turn Around is brimming with epic, pompous compositions that evoke comparisons to Muse's pre-Black Holes era, a brilliant sign of things to come from this young band.
