OzProg Newsletter #003 - April 2008

EDITION THE THIRD

This month OzProg has taken on a bit of an international flavour, with the announcement of tours from The Mars Volta, The Dillinger Escape Plan and Joe Satriani - and Porcupine Tree are here this week as well. Don't forget to jump on OzProg after the PT shows this weekend and post your thoughts!

On the home front, Cog this week released Sharing Space, the long-awaited follow-up to their debut The New Normal, and Melbourne post-rock band Laura have announced that they have a new EP in the works, among other exciting developments.

Read on for more!

WHAT'S NEW

On OzProg.com we recently published an interview with bassist Luke Gower of Cog, who are touring the country in support of their new album Sharing Space. Despite being in a band with international reputation, Luke comes off as a bloke more worried about the surf at Bondi than anything else, so it makes for an interesting interview indeed.

The big news for modern progressive rock fans is that The Mars Volta will be back for their fourth time around Australia, visiting the east coast and Perth and then heading over the New Zealand for a show in Auckland. Tickets for their show at the Forum in Melbourne sold out in an hour (!), resulting in a second show being immediately announced for the next night. Check out OzProg for dates and more information.

Two other tours that have us excited at OzProg HQ are The Dillinger Escape Plan (with OzProg's own Dead Letter Opener opening for the Brisbane show) and Joe Satriani, so the gig guide for the next few months look pretty packed as well! As always, keep an eye on the OzProg news page for any more upcoming tour announcements.

STEVEN WILSON TRANSCRIPT

After transcribing our extended Steven Wilson interview for newsletter subscribers last month we've now opened it up to the public, so if you know anyone who's a Porcupine Tree fan direct them to www.ozprog.com/newsletter/steven_wilson.php to read the conversation in full.

And then tell them to sign up to this Newsletter.

FEATURED ARTIST - SLEEP PARADE

Regulars of the OzProg forum will already be familiar with Sleep Parade as one of our hosted bands, but if you don't know who Sleep Parade are by now, prepare to be amazed. Despite a regular touring schedule (I'm pretty sure they were the support band for every gig I went to in 2006-07), their debut album Things Can Always Change seemed to take a lot of people by surprise. But with the prized support slot for both Cog and Porcupine Tree, if things stay on the same trajectory everybody will know who they are by the end of 2008.

PORCUPINE TREE COMPETITION WINNERS

In even more Porcupine Tree news, we've just announced the lucky bunch of people who have won PT CDs, tickets and a bunch of OzProg swag in the OzProg Porcupine Tree competiton. Thanks to everyone who helped us to promote the Porcupine Tree tour by entering!

That's all from me for this edition. See you at PT!

Cheers,
Brad
