Noise complaint madness

> Posted on February 15th, 2008 by Bradley Dixon

Delicate yuppies have begun filing noise complaints in inner-city areas with high concentrations of live music venues. Were they unaware that such venues existed when they moved in, or are they just stupid?

A surprisingly positive article about noise complaints entitled "Irate residents get loud in Music Bowl noise fight" was published today in The Age, a publication usually supportive of live music venues:
The promoters of last Saturday's Good Vibrations Festival, Jam Music, told The Age they were forced to turn the sound down 25 times. The final threat came as headliner and recent Grammy Award winner Kanye West was performing. [...]

"We are not totally against concerts at the bowl but we would like more consistency and notification of upcoming events."
Oh, that's good of you to decide to allow concerts at the Music Bowl.

What a disgrace. These people should be ashamed to call themselves Melburnians.

You want more notification about upcoming events? You live near the Sidney Myer Music Bowl, one of the largest outdoor music venues in Australia. Generally, events big enough to be held at the Music Bowl have promotions budgets that rival a lot of TV shows. I find it very hard to believe that you, as inner-city residents, failed to see anything around the city advertising Good Vibrations.

My thoughts on this subject in general are most eloquently summed up by the name of a Facebook group: "If you move into Fitzroy and start making noise complaints you are a moron!"
